So in a simple way, it's enjoying stories without the interaction of the fandom itself. You don't need to be active in the fandom to still enjoy reading a scary story.

Anyways, I have seen so many people who have left the fandom...
but...
They STILL love Creepypasta.

Fandoms are not the definition.

For example,
the FNAF fandom doesn't really define Five Nights At Freddy's.

Jeff the Killer having fangirls... doesn't mean that Jeff is literally hot and cute either =_=
The fandom is more of a creative world where ships or anything can happen...
(eh, sometimes it ends up to drama fighting because of that and leaving the fandom is what happens next)

While the actual Creepypasta
is well... just
Creepypasta. Facing mostly on the reality I guess.
